Noche de Rábanos (Night of the Radishes) |
Held in Oaxaca, Mexico during December 23-24 every year, this is not a festival where people come and eat. It has rather taken shape of a competition. After radish were brought to the Americas, vegetable sellers used to make lovely sculptures of radishes to advertise themselves in the markets. In 1987, this custom was recognized officially and, since then, best participants are awarded with cash prizes. |
