American art exhibition in Cuba after 23 years

Wednesday, March 25 2009

by Kaustav Das Modak

An exhibition, named "Chelsea Visits Havana", will be on display at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, from March 28 to May 17. The exhibition will include works of over 30 artists from the Chelsea district of New York.

Such an group exhibition of US artists in Cuba was last held back in 1986. Since then, this will be first time that the two countries will try to establish a better relation with each other through their arts.

Alberto Magnan, US curator, said that the exhibition aimed at giving Cuba a view of arts in America. He also feels, "Art has always been a bridge to culture" and thinks that this will be "a great first step" towards harmonizing the relations between the two countries.
