The British alternative rock band Coldplay, led by their vocalist Chris Martin, has been charged with plagiarism, copying another musician's song. Cat Stevens, the 70's rocker, said that Coldplay's Viva La Vida is the ripped version of his song Foreigner Suite.
Stevens claimed, "There's been this argument about Coldplay stealing this melody from Joe Satriani, but, if you listen to it, it's mine! It's the 'Foreigner Suite.'"
This incident is already the third time where the band was charged with plagiarism. Guitarist Satriani sued the rock band saying that the chords of his 2004 song If I Could Fly were replicated in Viva La Vida. Besides, Creaky Boards said that the band's hit single has a similar melody to their song, The Songs I Didn't Write.
The representative of Coldplay only commented, "We have not commented previously about the claims, and there will be no comment about this one."
