David Letterman,
presenter of the "Late Show" is almost near to sign a new deal with the television network CBS
to reinstate their contract for 2 more years after the present contract ends in 2010. The new
agreement, if finalized, will extend Letterman's association with CBS till 2011-12.
Experts say that the renewal of Letterman's contract is CBS' answer to NBC's move of replacing
Jay Leno's show with

Ratings of O'Brien's "Tonight Show", which started its run in the 10 p.m. slot from June 1,
had an edge over Letterman's show during the first week of this month. The margin has
narrowed in the following days and CBS feels that Letterman will remain the key to increased
ratings.
Prior to joining "Late Show", Letterman was with the show "Late Night" on NBC. After he left
NBC for CBS, Letterman's place was given to Conan O'Brien.
