Months ago, it was Zac Efron who was rumored to play the lead role in the film Footlose, which was made famous by Kevin Bacon back in the 80s.
Now, Paramount Pictures officially announced that Gossip Girl actor Chace Crawford will be replacing the shoes of Efron in the film. He is cast to play Ren McCormack who was the rebellious dancing high school student.
Efron declined the role because he didn't want to be referred as a musical actor and he wanted to take a break from musical movies. He told EW.com that he is still searching for the "the unknown" role for him.
Footloose will be directed by Kenny Ortega, the same person who worked for High School Musical. Filming is scheduled to commence in March 2010.
