Disney animation movie dethroned Harry Potter 6 at box office

Sunday, July 26 2009

by Kaustav Das Modak

After a strong opening in its first week, "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" dropped to

second spot at the box office in North America as Disney's animated movie, "G-Force", took

the lead with continent-wide sales of $32.1 million in this week. In its second week, "Half-Blood Prince" earned $30 million in North America and $84.4 million worldwide.

Officials at Disney were pleased with this result as "G-Force" as gained a strong position under pressure of competition from heavy-weights like the "Half-Blood Prince" and "The Ugly Truth".

Warner Bros. executives feel that the sixth Potter movie lacked IMAX exposure, whereas the sweet guinea pigs of "G-Force" earned a large portion of their income frm the 3D

theatres.
