It was confirmed. Following a change in ascension rules, boy or girl, the first child of Prince William and Kate Middleton will be the next heir to the British throne.
The ascension laws have been changed by leaders of the 16 governments with Queen Elizabeth II as their head. The old law states that the immediate heir is the first-born son of the monarch. Going forward, the new law states that the immediate heir is the first born child of the monarch. Looks like a small change in the law text but the implications are huge. That means if Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a girl as their first child, that girl will be the future queen of England.
“Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen" British Prime Minister David Cameron said after the new law was voted.
The first born child of William and Kate will be the king or queen of more than a dozen countries: Britain, New Zealand, Australia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Jamaica, Canada, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, St. Christopher & Nevis, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia and the Bahamas.by FW Editor |
