The former American sprinter Melvin Emery Patton born on 16 November 1924 in Los Angeles known as the world’s fastest human in the 1940s died at age 89 in Fallbrook, Calif, near San Diego. He obtained two gold medals at the 1948 Summer Olympics and was a five-time N.C.A.A. champion competing for U.S.C. |
