A lawsuit that was pending for filming of a movie based on J.R.R. Tolkien's sequel to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, has been cleared and it is expected that the movie will turn out to be a blockbuster.
Trustees in charge of Tolkien's estate had been in legal tussle with New Line since February 2008 claiming over $150 million of profits from sales of the three Lord of the Rings movies made till date. Additionally, they had also appealed to stop filming of "The Hobbit".
The financial figures of the settlement of the lawsuit was not declared publicly. However, Christopher Tolkien, son of J.R.R. Tolkien, issued a statement saying, "New Line may now proceed with its proposed films of 'The Hobbit.'".
"The Hobbit" will be made into two movies by Guillermo del Toro.
