The public memorial for Michael Jackson at Staples Center on Tuesday cost Los Angeles a whopping $1.4 million including the $1.1 million for the overtime pay of more than 4,000 police officers.
In a statement, the Police Department said that the cops secured the most sought after areas by the fans and supporters of the pop legend such as the Staples Center and the Forest Lawn cemetery.
The spokesperson of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Matt Szabo, confirmed to the Associated Press that the cost of Jackson's memorial was "far less" than the city's first estimate which was $4 million. As of now, the total debt of Los Angeles is $530 million.
