One of the all times well known porn star was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986. According to Laurie Rose, his second wife, John C. Holmes always said that he never used needles and was terrified by them.
Both his first wife, Sharon, as well as Bill Amerson, separately confirmed later that Holmes could not have contracted HIV from his drug addiction, because Holmes was not taking drugs via injection. During the summer of 1986, two years before his death, unable to find work in America, Holmes traveled to Europe. In Italy he filmed his last porno movies, including The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empress, which co-starred the later Italian Parliament member Ilona "Cicciolina" Staller. His final film was The Devil In Mr. Holmes.
He continued to make public appearances at autograph signings as well as hosting video clips during 1986 and 1987, during which time the gaunt physical appearance resulting from his health problems became increasingly evident.by FW Editor |
