Liverpool defeat Aston Villa 5-0 for Gerrard hat-trick

Monday, March 23 2009

by Kaustav Das Modak

Yesterday, Anfield saw another three goal streak by Steven Gerrard in the match against Aston Villa. Supporting on this hat-trick, Liverpool sent Aston Villa crushing down to a 5-0 defeat.

The game seemed all too easy for the Liverpool team, currently in great form for the last few months. The only notable effort from Aston Villa's side was an attack by John Carew which didn't reach the goal owing to a brilliant save by Pepe Reina in the 25th minute.

By halftime, Liverpool were leading the game by 3-0. Just before halftime, Gerrard scored from a penalty and then he scored from a free kick after halftime. In the 64th minute, Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel saw a red card and Gerrard scored his hat-trick from the penalty.

The other two goals in the match were scored by Albert Riera and Dirk Kuyt.

This win put Liverpool just a single point behind Manchester United in the League table.
