Malawians had opposed Madonna when she adopted David pointing out that it was against their local law for non-residents to adopt a Malawian child. Now, many groups have announced that they will are against the adoption of Mercy James and will stand up against it. Human Rights Consultative Committee’s national director, Mavuto Bamusi, said that they will be holding a press briefing on Monday to challenge this adoption.
Madonna reached Malawi yesterday, March 29, to appear in a court in Malawi for the proceedings of the adoption of a girl child, Mercy James, from Malawi. An official at the airport said that pop star got into her convoy after getting off the cargo area.
She has taken a room at an elite hotel along with her adopted son David Banda. Madonna had adopted David in 2006 from the same orphanage where she is adopting Mercy now. David was 13 months old at that time and was kept in the orphanage by his father after his wife's death. Mercy is now 4 years old.
Yohane Banda, David's biological father, also arrived at the hotel to meet his son.
