On Friday,
target="_blank">Madonna was granted permission to adopt Mercy James, a four-year-
old baby girl from
target="_blank">Malawi, after facing initial denial from a Malawian court in April this
year.
Madonna had filed her request for reconsideration of the adoption process with the
Malawian Supreme Court after she was denied by a lower court which had given the verdict
that Madonna cannot rightfully adopt Mercy as the pop diva was not a Malawian
resident.
Lovemore Munlo, Chief Justice of the county, said that a lower court had made an error in
declining Madonna on her previous attempt and added that the pop star is "bold and
compassionate enough" to have taken the decision to adop Mercy.
But apart from them, everyone else is enraged with this decision, including Mercy James
father James Kabewa who had left his job in order to stop the adoption. "No one wants to
listen to me, I have protested this all along ... I want my child back but I don't know what to
do now ... Madonna cannot take her away."
Social rights groups and non-governmental organizations are also furious since no one can
challenge the verdict of the Supreme Court.
