Mark Ruffalo advises AIDS victims

Tuesday, July 20 2010

Mark Ruffalo and Ryan Murphy will perform together for the big screen an adaptation of the play The Normal Heart.

Ruffalo will play Ned Weeks, gay rights campaigner, a Jew, who helped establish a strong advisory group of AIDS victims during the '80s. The script was written by Larry Kramer.

In an interview for MTV, Ruffalo says: "Firstly, it's a story about the AIDS epidemic that is happening in New York. They didn't take the condition seriously because it was seen as a disease of the gay community, and was known as one.

It was an interesting time. I think that when someone can change the world through his dedication, even if he is alone in this struggle that thing is something that draws power. I am glad that such a civic movement changed the way officials handled the epidemic.

Is a strong message, about something that was overlooked. We can get cynical about what we do, what works against us, but at the end of the day, it just about people."

At this moment its unknown if Murphy will sign and direct, but will certainly be the producer.

And taking into account the serious subject is likely for Ruffalo to attract the attention of Film Academy.
