New name coming up for Sci Fi Channel

Monday, March 16 2009

by Kaustav Das Modak

In June, the Sci Fi Channel will be changing its name to SyFy Channel. It will also use a new logo after a 16 year run with its old name and logo. Sci Fi Channel is owned by NBC Universal.

They have undertaken a campaign throughout the USA to rebrand themselves. As part of this campaign, the tagline of the present Sci Fi Channel will change to "Imagine Greater". Sci Fi Channel is yet to announce the changes in front of advertisers on Monday.

Dave Howe, the network president, has said that the reason for the change in name is to keep the heritage of the Sci Fi Channel but at the same time opening up to a broader range of content.
