Contactmusic.com announced that Australian actress Nicole Kidman (43 years) asked the authorities in Haiti to get involved in increasing security measures to limit the number of sexual abuse against women.
2003 Oscar winner for playing writer Virginia Woolf in the drama "The Hours" visited the Haitian capital Port au Prince on 7/29/2010 as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and said this trip helped her to understand how the natural disaster produced in January 2010 has left its mark on the girls and mature women in Haiti.
Kidman said the lack of safety and shelter for the Haitian women transforms them into vulnerable victims to sexual violence. She also said that they need to build a larger number of temporary shelters for people left without a roof over their head.
The star of movies like "Cold Mountain", "Dogville", "Moulin Rouge" or "Nine" praised the Haitian determination to rebuild the country from scratch and has visited with the executive director of UNIFEM - Ines Alberdi - a temporary shelter for raped women to ensure that the victims benefit consulting, legal services and medical care.
Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban also intend to finance the construction of a new school in Haiti in August this year.by FW Editor |
