Paula Abdul Admits Dependence on Painkillers Before

Wednesday, May 6 2009

by Joe Halls

In the June issue of Ladies' Home Journal where the American Idol judge is featured, Paula Abdul relates her dependence on painkillers back then, "I could have killed myself. Withdrawal – it's the worst thing."

She admitted that she checked into La Costa Resort and Spa, in Carlsbad, California last Thanksgiving to help her with such addiction, "I was freezing cold, then sweating hot, then chattering and in so much pain, it was excruciating. But at my very core, I did not like existing the way I had been."

Because of her 15th surgery, yoga and spiritual workshops, she feels a lot better than usual. When asked about her co-judge Simon Cowell, she said, "He's like the brother I never had – or wanted. From day one, Simon and I have had a love-hate relationship"

She also shared her perception about the new judge Kara DioGuardi, "It's a boys' club no more. Now, it's a sisterhood with Kara, and we're having a blast."
