Seamus Heaney awarded the David Cohen Prize for Literature

Seamus Heaney, the Irish Nobel laureate, has been awared with the David Cohen Prize for Literature. He received the recognition on Wednesday, March 18, 2009.


The David Cohen Prize is given in the British Isles to living writers as a lifetime achievement award in literature.


Among the judges were poet Andrew Motion who said that the writings of Seamus Heaney made it an "absolutely right and proper act of recognition" to honour the 69 year old poet from Ireland.


Seamus Heaney was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in the year 1995. Among the main collections of his poetries include the books Death of a Naturalist, Seeing Things and his latest book District and Circle. He has also written a number of prose, plays and translations.
