Slumdog Child Star Leaves the Slum

Monday, July 6 2009

Azharuddin Ismail, 9, the child star who played the youngest Salim in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, has moved into his new home together with his whole family in a Mumbai suburb.

A thrilled Ismail, who formerly resided in a shanty by the railway tracks, conferred, "I like it here, it is really nice. But I will miss my old friends back in Bandra. Maybe I will go and visit them once a while."

The producers set up the Jai Ho Trust to be given to the child stars when they turn 18. The trust fund shed $42,000 to pay the 250 square foot ground floor flat situated in a modern building complex for Ismail's family.

The child's mom Shameem shared, "We have lived on the road for so many years. I had never dreamed that we would have a roof over our heads."
