Stephenie Meyer sued for Twilight copyright

Thursday, August 20 2009

Stephenie Meyer, author of the acclaimed vampire novel "Twilight", has been sued by Jordan Scott who claims that Meyer has stolen ideas from a book named "The Nocturne" which was written by Scott for the fourth book in the "Twilight" series named "Breaking Dawn".

Scott has accused that Meyer has stolen ideas of passages of "The Nocturne" which were posted online. Scott's statement said that both the books show "similarities in language, plot lines, characters and other points". As an example, the statement said both books contain "a wedding passage and an after-wedding scene of sex on the beach."

Stephenie Meyer's publisher Hachette Book Group has severely criticized Jordan Scott for the lawsuit saying that the similarities she has shown here were "wholly lacking in substance". They claim that "Breaking Dawn" is based on a sequel Meyer had written for "Twilight". They also regarded this lawsuit as a "publicity stunt to further Ms. Scott's career".
