Vatican says it cannot approve Angels & Demons

Saturday, March 21 2009

by Kaustav Das Modak

Angels & Demons, the sequel to The Da Vinci Code, is about to be boycotted by the Vatican. The Church has regarded the movie as problematic and says that it "cannot approve" of the movie, according to a news published yesterday in Avvenire, the official newspaper of the Vatican. The news also included a quote of Archbishop Velasio De Paolis saying that the buzz generated as a result of the Vatican boycott can actually increase public attention for the movie and give it a better publicity instead.

This is the second movie based on a novel by Dan Brown. Though Dan Brown wrote Angels & Demons before writing The Da Vinci Code, yet The Da Vinci Code was made into movie in 2006 and now it is turn of Angels & Demons. Many churches had tried to ban The Da Vinci Code when it was released in 2006. But that did not hinder the success of the movie.
